SIBLINE QUARRY REHABILITATION - PHASE II - PREPARATION OF ADDENDUM TO ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT & LANDFILL DESIGN

Following the successful Rehabilitation initiative and implementation of the first landfill cell in Phase I, a new cell – Phase II (extension) is envisaged to landfill the soil material that were stockpiled on the upper terraces. The volume of the non-compacted leftover soil is estimated to range between 25,000-30,000 m³. The leftover materials consist mainly of major fraction of soil, rocks and minor quantities of wood and fabrics. This new cell – Phase II (extension) is located partly on top of the existing cell (Phase I) to take advantage of the available infrastructure and extends to the first terrace of the quarry after making the necessary engineering and earth adjustments.

Services Undertaken included

  • Preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment (Addendum Study) for Sibline Quarry rehabilitation – Phase II and implementation of a sanitary landfill extension.
  • Identification and analysis of potential negative and positive impact on the environment during the rehabilitation, transfer and post closure phases,
  • Preparation of detailed design for Rehabilitation of the Sibline Quarry Site – Phase II (extension) and implementation of a sanitary landfill with the associated lining, drainage, venting and leachate collection systems.
