The project’s main feature is a rock fill gravity dam with a concrete facing curtain upstream. The dam is 470m wide with a maximum height of 63m. The dam has a retaining capacity of 8 million m3 of water. The project also includes a 5km long underground supply pipe 1m in diameter laid in cut and cover in except when crossing under a mountain where the pipe is in a concrete lined tunnel 60m deep in places and conveying water from Nabeh Al Laban. The project also includes a Water Treatment Plant of a capacity of 60,000m3/day.
Services Undertaken included Advise and follow up of Geotechnical Investigations with Drilling up to 60m depth, Laboratory Testing, Reporting with Geotechnical Studies and Recommendation for the Execution of Three Tunnels totaling 1.5km in length in the Dam Area and for the Water Supply line tunnel. Advise and follow up of Geotechnical Investigation in relation to the Quarry with Recommendations as to the Methodology of Exploitation of the Quarry.
