ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT FOR UNIPAK S.A.L. TISSUE MILL DIVISION - Halat, Jbeil Caza, Lebanon

Unipak s.a.l. Tissue Mill Division (UTM Facility), a Member of INDEVCO Group, was established in year 1995 and is located at the coastline of Halat town in the Caza of Jbeil, Mount Lebanon. The Facility operates a partly-integrated tissue mill which uses virgin and recycled pulps as raw materials for the production of tissue paper rolls.

Unipak Tissue Mill Division Facility consists of tissue production buildings, a power plant, an effluent treatment plant, boilers, fuel storage tanks, storage areas, and an administrative building. Unipak Tissue Mill Division produces 32,000 MT/year of tissue rolls from virgin and recycled fiber stocks, which are then converted by consumer disposables companies in Lebanon and abroad into household and institutional

products.

The Environmental Audit Report consists of the following:

  • Investigation and description of the operating systems of the Facility;
  • Sampling and analysis of treated effluent and measurement and analysis of gas emissions and noise levels;
  • Assessment of the environmental compliance of the Facility with the national environmental legislations, regulations, limit values, and codes of practice;
  • Assessment of the current environmental management policies and current practices implemented in the production process;
  • Identification of the areas of improvement, where and when needed, in the Facility systems to minimize impacts on the environment; and
  • Setting of remedial action plan and environmental monitoring plan to correct specific environmental problems, if any, that will be identified during the audit process.
